Registering for Network Access
If you have a laptop or desktop that needs access to the network *and* it's already physically setup up, you need to provide SBS Technical Support (sbstech@u.arizona.edu)with your network card's MAC address. After we receive the address it takes 2-3 hours to process, and we will send you a confirmation email. Please follow the instructions for your operating system below to obtain your MAC address.
- Windows 95/98/ME
- 1. Go to Start, Run.
- 2. In the dialog box, type "winipcfg" and hit OK.
- 3. In the drop-down box at the top, choose your ethernet card.
- 4. Write down the Adapter Address.
- Windows NT/2000/XP
- 1. Go to Start, Run.
- 2. In the dialog box, type "command" and hit OK.
- 3. In the DOS box that pops up, type "ipconfig /all" and hit enter.
- 4. Write down the Physical Address listed below your ethernet card.
- MacOS 9.x
- 1. Go to the Apple Menu, Control Panels, TCP/IP.
- 2. Go to File, Get Info.
- 3. Write down the Hardware Address.
- MacOS X
- 1. Go to the Apple Menu, System Preferences, Network.
- 2. Next to the Show option, make sure it says Ethernet.
- 3. Write down the Ethernet Address below.
- Linux
- 1. As the root user, run "ifconfig". (Usually located in /sbin/)
- 2. For your ethernet adapter (probably eth0), write down the number next to the HWaddr field.
