Fatuma is a sophomore from Phoenix, AZ double majoring in Political Science and Journalism. Some of her most meaningful experiences beyond the classroom include mentoring younger students planning to pursue STEM careers in the MESA program and being an active member of the Elgie M. Batteau Honor Society. These opportunities helped her understand the importance of community and serving as a role model for anyone who wants to pursue their dreams. As a first generation college student, Fatuma found community through her involvement on campus and re-discovered parts of her own identity in the process. Fatuma believes that creativity derives from the passions of the heart, and in her spare time she enjoys reading, writing on her own blog, and helping the community.
