What is a Life Management Counselor (LMC)?

A Life Management Counselor is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who can talk with students about their mental health and wellness needs. LMC’s offer short-term, free and confidential counseling services to undergraduate students to address anxiety, stress that interferes with daily functions, depression/low mood, grief and loss, life transitions, overwhelming emotions or traumatic stress and interpersonal conflicts. In addition to counseling services, students are able to meet with an LMC to talk about available mental health resources within The University of Arizona and Tucson community.

How is Life Management different from CAPS?

Both LMC and CAPS services provide mental health support to students. LMC’s were established to help increase access to mental health services and are unique as they are embedded within different units / colleges on campus. LMC’s provide individual counseling at no cost. CAPS offers wellness programs, individual/group counseling, support groups and psychiatric appointments. CAPS is a fee-based program and accepts most insurances.

How do I schedule an appointment?

The scheduling system currently used is eSMS. You can click on the Make an appointment  link and find available time to set up an initial consult to discuss LMC services and ask any questions you may have. If you decide to continue with sessions, you will also utilize the same link to schedule future appointments. If you run into difficulty with scheduling, please email mnr1@arizona.edu
