Lela Garcia

Law with a minor in Philosophy

Native Tucsonan Lela Garcia is a first-generation Hispanic UArizona student, leader, dedicated academic, and social justice advocate. Lela is a junior at the University of Arizona Honors College pursuing a B.A. in Law and hopes to graduate summa cum laude. As a student in the accelerated 3x3 J.D. program, Lela plans on attending James E. Rogers in Fall 2022 allowing her to complete her B.A. and her Juris Doctor in as few as six years.

As of current, Lela is extensively involved in the College of SBS as the co-president of SBS Ambassadors, a student leader on the JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) committee, and as a recruitment intern. She is also working to complete her Honors Thesis on Non-Marriage and Arizona’s divorce and community property provisions.

Some of Lela’s recent accomplishments include coordinating an inaugural JEDI Summer Leadership Academy on Mass Incarceration, Justice, and Higher Education, working to revise ABOR’s student code of conduct, and drafting provisions for hate speech on campus.  

When she is not working on her academic or professional goals, Lela enjoys drinking espresso, lifting heavy in the gym, and spending time with her cats and family!
