SBS Teacher Development

In order to support teachers, our team will be working on SBS teacher development opportunities to be hosted throughout the academic year. Cole Eskridge, SBS Instructional Designer, is offering the following innovative workshops Fall 2017.

3D Engagement: Three necessary perspectives for designing engaged learning experiences.
Thursday, September 14, 12 - 1 pm
SBS Conference Room, Douglass Building 102

Engagement: this one word has many applications in higher education. Often, we discuss engagement from the perspective of "out-of-class" experiences, but we neglect to discuss what it means when designing and facilitating an "engaged" classroom. In this workshop, participants will explore the three dimensions of classroom engagement as well as how to leverage these dimensions in practice. This will be accomplished by exploring example courses to identify engagement strategies and provide redesign suggestions with student engagement centered in the course. Workshop participants will be eligible to earn their own Credly badge by completing an additional post-workshop assignment.

Put a badge on it! Strategies for designing authentic badging initiatives.
Wednesday, October 11, 12 - 1 pm
SBS Conference Room, Douglass Building 102

Digital badging has taken off as a tool to encourage greater motivation in learners; however, how do we design badging strategies that support course goals, rather than distracting from core learning objectives? In this workshop, we will briefly overview research that highlights the utility of badging in higher education to inform our design practice. A large portion of this workshop will provide participants a space to design a badging strategy for a course they facilitate and receive feedback from peers. Workshop participants will be eligible to earn their own Credly badge for this workshop by completing an additional post-workshop assignment.
