The Imaginary Present

Please find the below flyer for an upcoming interdisciplinary event, hosted by the University of Arizona English Department. We invite you to hear new work by Professor Amy Catanzano (Wake Forest University), who will read from The Imaginary Present: Essays in Quantum Poetics (University in Michigan Press 2025). Professor Catanzano's reading will inspire wide-ranging questions: How do we use language to perceive the unseeable? How does a poem interact with spacetime? What conceptual tools do literary artists and scientists use to make discoveries? Join us to see how the following thinkers respond: astronomer Dr. Kevin Hainline, writer Dr. Susan Briante, and PhD Candidate in Physics Maria Mutz. Professor Sara Sams will moderate.

What: The Imaginary Present: An Interdisciplinary Conversation about Inquiry, Language, Poetry, and Physics (featuring Professor Amy Catanzano)

Where: Meinel Optical Sciences Building, Room 410

When: 5:00 PM

Food: Light refreshments will be served.

Feel free to write to Sara Sams, sasams@arizona.edu, with any questions about the event or poetic spacetime.
