School of Government and Public Policy Selected to Join National Cohort Connecting Veterans to Public Service Careers
The School of Government and Public Policy in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences has been selected to join a new cohort of 17 schools in the Volcker Alliance Service to Service program, which will expand the initiative to 29 colleges and universities nationwide.
The Service to Service, developed in partnership with We the Veterans and Military Families, connects veterans and military families with public service education pathways and prepares them for impactful careers in state and local government. By creating clear transitions from military to civilian service, the program enables veterans and military families to continue serving their communities.
Participating schools are members of the Deans Summit, a collaborative network of institutions that confer degrees in public policy, public administration, and public affairs. In the School of Government and Public Policy, the program will be available to graduate students in the M.A. in International Security, Master of Public Administration, and Master of Public Policy programs.
"The School of Government & Public Policy is proud to join a cohort of public service schools participating in the exciting "Service-to-Service" program with the Volcker Alliance, We the Veterans, and Military Families," said Alex Braithwaite, professor and director of the School of Government and Public Policy. "Our graduate programs are designed to train new generations of impactful public service leaders. They serve as ideal conduits for military veterans to prepare for new service opportunities, which also advances the University of Arizona’s land grant mission as it intersects with national security."
“Service to Service addresses the urgent need for talent in state and local government and aims to rebuild public trust,” said Sara Mogulescu, president of the Volcker Alliance. “Veterans and military-connected family members bring exactly what the government needs — integrity, nonpartisan leadership experience, public service values, and the credibility to help restore confidence in our institutions.”
Service to Service will host a recruitment fair on November 18 from 4-6 p.m. EST to introduce veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, and military families to graduate programs in public policy, public administration, and related fields. The fair is open to anyone in the military community interested in exploring these educational pathways and learning more about state and local government careers.
