Kamrin Robinson is graduating summa cum laude with a double major in Environmental Studies and Anthropology. Kamrin is the recipient of the fall 2022 SBS Excellence in Leadership and Community Engagement Award, which recognizes a graduating senior who has demonstrated exemplary leadership skills through their involvement on and off campus and their impact on the lives of others.

A transfer student from Pima Community College, Kamrin is an excellent student and an effective leader said Andrew Comrie and Dereka Rushbrook, both professors in the School of Geography, Development & Environment. “Kamrin's technical analysis and writing skills are unusually strong – she is able to synthesize complex environmental data and communicate key findings from her analysis in clear, concise reports,” they wrote.

“But beyond her strength as a student, Kamrin stands out for her active pursuit of challenges, service, and learning beyond the classroom,” Comrie and Rushbrook wrote.

On campus, Kamrin is part of Students for Sustainability, where she has been an active member of the Educational Outreach Committee. She also pursued the off-campus opportunity to train as a Sustainability Ambassador with Sustainable Tucson, which requires 14 weeks of training with local experts with the end goal of becoming an informed advocate and public educator for sustainability efforts in the region.

In addition to working at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Kamrin interns as a research assistant at the Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology, conducting literature reviews on COVID-19 impacts on low-income households.

Kamrin has complemented her work as a medical scribe with volunteer trips with international medical organizations to Peru, Cambodia, and Guatemala, where she furthered her interest in global public health.

"I am grateful for my professors and the diverse coursework at UA that has fostered my desire to use the knowledge and tools I've developed to serve my local and global community," Kamrin said.

Kamrin plans to pursue a master’s in public health with the goal of pursuing a career in environmental and/or global health.
