Anna Lineberry — a senior graduating with magna cum laude honors in Journalism and minors in public relations in the Department of Communication and in fashion — is an intern in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the president of the Public Relations Student Society of America, or PRSSA, and also interns as a publisher assistant for the Catalina Foothills Lifestyle Magazine. Originally from Northern California, Anna plans to return home after graduation as she considers her post-college plans. In this Q&A, she reflects on her time as an undergrad at the U of A — sharing what she learned in and out of the classroom, what she'll miss most, and the advice she hopes new students will carry with them.

Looking back on your college career, what moment or experience stands out the most to you, and why?

So many things stand out to me, but seeing my first article published in a Tucson news outlet was a highlight. It was such a rewarding feeling to see my hard work pay off. This moment reminded me of why I chose journalism as my major in the first place, and it gave me more confidence to keep pursuing my passions.

What is something you learned outside of the classroom that has been as valuable as what you’ve learned in your studies?

Trusting myself and my abilities. Throughout my college career, there have been so many moments where I have had to step outside of my comfort zone, whether it be interviewing someone, pitching a story, or taking on a leadership role. As someone who has second-guessed myself before, I have learned that I am capable of handling more than I give myself credit for. Learning self-trust has allowed me to succeed in new aspects and remain resilient.

How has your role as an intern at SBS shaped your career goals and/or perspective on them?

My role as an intern at SBS has inspired me to continue pursuing a career in journalism and public relations. Working at SBS has allowed me to connect with the university on a deeper level. I’ve had the opportunity to interview and interact with a lot of cool people, which has helped me grow personally and professionally. This experience has further strengthened my skills in academic storytelling, research-driven reporting, and amplifying diverse voices. I have so much respect for SBS and all of the people who work behind the scenes to make the college successful.

If you could have a conversation with your freshman self, what would you tell her about the journey ahead?

I wish I could go back and tell my homesick freshman year self that my journey ahead was going to be something pretty great. I would tell her that while the journey ahead may be hard sometimes, it is going to be extremely rewarding, and that everything will work out the way it's supposed to.

What’s the one thing you will miss most about Tucson and the U of A?

It is hard to pick one thing, but the Tucson sunsets are unreal, and I have loved getting to explore a new city and all of the fun outdoor activities. One of my favorite spots in Tucson is Gates Pass — it is such a beautiful spot to sit and enjoy the sunset. When it comes to the University of Arizona, I’ll especially miss the sense of community. There’s something really special about seeing so many Tucson locals come together to support U of A athletics and events.

What's next for you after graduation? Are you diving into a new job, thinking about further studies, or maybe taking some time for a personal adventure?

After graduation, I’m excited to pursue a career in public relations! I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to dive into a job and start this next chapter of my professional journey.
