Scholarships

Each year we offer nearly 200 scholarships to SBS students totaling close to $800,000 through the generosity of donors, investors, and alumni. You can apply for general scholarships offered through the college, as well as those offered by your major department.

How to Apply

You can apply for SBS and other scholarships online through Scholarship Universe. This is a free scholarship matching service exclusively for UA students. You create a profile, and based upon your answers we will match you to UA and non-UA scholarships for which you're eligible.

To apply for SBS scholarships:

  1. Make sure you have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file for the current school year (required for all scholarships, not just those based on financial need.
  2. Sign into Scholarship Universe with your NetID and password
  3. Create your profile
  4. Apply for matching SBS scholarships

Scholarship Opportunities

SBS Student Completion Scholarship

The SBS Student Completion Scholarship was established to help students bridge the financial gap in order to graduate. It was designed to help students pay off small past due balances or reduce balances to where they can enroll in classes for the next semester. 

  • Award: Varies based on need and available funds
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be undergraduate degree seeking, U.S. citizens enrolled in an academic program at The University of Arizona’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences with a minimum of 75 completed units, a GPA of 2.0 or higher, and a Bursar’s charge.

Innovation Circle Scholarship

Funded by the generous donations of our Innovation Circle (formerly Magellan Circle) members. Selected Innovation Circle Scholars are expected to attend a breakfast event where they meet their scholarship patron.

  • Award Amount: $1000
  • Number of Awards: Multiple awards
  • Eligibility: Undergraduate students in good academic standing, enrolled full time for both fall and spring semesters majoring in a program in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. Scholarship is based both on merit and financial need.

In your online application you will need to upload the following documents

  • A brief written statement explaining why you believe you should receive a Magellan Scholarship. You may write about your background and education, your professional and personal goals, your financial situation, and/or how this $1,000 award can help you achieve your academic goals. The latter is very important since the final decision will be based on financial need as well as academic performance.
  • A resume that details your extracurricular activities and any scholarship or awards you have received.
  • Current FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file; don't attach the form. For more information, please refer to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid

Earl H. Carroll Scholarship

  • Award: $750
  • Eligibility: Graduate or Undergraduate students in good academic standing, enrolled full time for both fall and spring semesters majoring in a program in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. Scholarship is based both on merit and financial need.

Grabel Family Scholarship

  • Award: $1,200
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students pursuing a major in The University of Arizona College of Social and Behavioral Sciences with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Harriet A. and George W. McGrath Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Award: $1,000
  • Eligibility: This scholarship supports undergraduate students in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.  Freshman applicants must have had a high scholastic standing in their high school class.  Student must demonstrate financial need.  The student must maintain a 2.0 GPA during the fall semester to be eligible for the spring semester disbursement.

Louis F. Landon Memorial Scholarship

  • Award Amount: $10,000
  • Number of Awards: One scholarship awarded at a time.  
  • Eligibility: Students enrolled full-time in any department in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Arizona. Preference will be given to Arizona residents, incoming freshmen, and students with a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Students must show that they need financial assistance to continue their studies.

David E. & Lucille C. Nutt Scholarship (Undergrads)

  • Award: $4,000 per year, renewable up to four years
  • Number of Awards: One scholarship awarded at a time.
  • Eligibility: Undergraduates enrolled in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences who attended high school in Arizona for four years and graduated in the top 25% of their class. The scholarship may be renewed up to four years if the student maintains a 3.0 grade point average and completes at least 16 units a semester.

C. Gloria Paul Memorial Scholarship

  • Award: $600 per year, not renewable
  • Number of Awards: Varies based on funding
  • Eligibility: Students planning a career in international relations. U.S. citizenship is not required. The scholarship is available to academically outstanding upper-division and graduate students.

Jon P. & Chloe A. McQueen Scholarship

  • Award: $5,280
  • Number of Awards: One scholarship with possibility of renewal
  • Eligibility: Student needs to be starting the academic year as a junior, senior, or transfer student majoring in Sociology or Communication. The selected winner will be required to remain enrolled full-time, and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

  • Award: $1,000
  • Number of Awards: One scholarship awarded each academic year
  • Eligibility: Incoming freshmen enrolled in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences with a high scholastic standing in high school and demonstrated financial need. Student must maintain a 2.0 grade point average in the fall semester to receive spring semester disbursement.

William Owen Nugent Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Award: $1,000
  • Number of Awards: Varies based on funding
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or greater.
